Contracts
The heart of the deal for the Graphic Novel contracts is that the writer and penciller retain all rights and the contract is basically an exclusive license to publish for a number of years (most commonly 10) with the option for both sides to review at various points throughout that, and to renew for another period at the end.
Payment is royalties based with profit being split 50/50 between the publisher and the creative team (the specific % an individual gets within that is dependent on various factors). This kicks in from the first sale, there are no thresholds, and it applies to revenue from all channels, not just sales from direct distribution.
As the company grows and we are able to offer improved terms to creators we also amend the contracts of any creators already signed with us so they benefit equally. We have been able to do this once already in our 2 year history.
