Original Graphic Novels

For Writers

If you want to get in touch first to ask if your idea sounds like the kind of thing we are looking for before you put the whole pitch package together you can contact us at submissions@insomniapublications.com

Do you need a “High Concept Pitch”?

A topline pitch that gets our attention is good, however all that tells us is  if you are good at formulating snappy high-concept pitches, not what your scripting, structuring and storytelling are like – although the high concept pitch will be useful for marketing if your work is accepted.

By all means include one, but we will need much more than that to make a decision.

What do you need to know?

  • About the story
  • Overall story synopsis (eg what happens for the whole story
  • Story structure (eg how the plot breaks down by “issue” or “chapter”)
  • Proposed length
  • How much (if any) is complete
  • Character profiles for the main characters
  • Setting / Locations / Time period (important to know for finding artists – so any visual ideas you might have, although it doesn’t matter if you prefer to leave all that to the artist)
  • The story themes and rationale (eg what it is really “about” that is the concepts you will be exploring rather than the “what happens” of the synopsis that tells us how you will dramatically execute the discussion of the concepts)

Do You Need Samples?

Samples are good if you have them but not required at the pitch stage

Do I need to submit in a certain format ?

We do not care if you have the right script formatting software or fonts at this stage, we want your talent, not your technical know how.

Artists (Pencils, inks, colours or all 3)

  • We would like to see sequentials as well as pin ups (unless you want to be purely a cover artist – which is fine, but let us know that)
  • What formats you work in – traditional media, digital etc
  • Whether you work in Colour or black and white
  • If you are submitting to be an inker or colourist then we need to see copies of the underlying pencils as well as your work.

Please don’t send any one email with attachments larger than 5Mb or it will not come through.

All submissions go to our Creative Director,  Nic Wilkinson, and you can reach her at submissions@insomniapublications.com

We prefer to recive submissions by email, but our mailbox tops out at 5mb. Splitting your submission over several emails is fine.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Quarantined follows a group of survivors trapped in a small town in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan shortly after a biological plague is released into the water supply. This plague turns a person into a homicidal war machine, which forces the borders to close, leaving our band of survivors to fight for their lives.

The Indifference Engine The Indifference Engine

Responding to a strangely specific job advertisement, a distinctly ordinary twenty-something suburban slacker finds himself in the middle of an inter-dimensional task force staffed entirely by superhuman alternate versions of himself. Struggling to fit in, he uncovers a conspiracy that strikes at the very heart of the organisation – a conspiracy that only he can stop.

Damaged Goods Damaged Goods

Last seen in the company of Magpie’s serial killing vacationer in Layer Zero: Choices, Richard McAuliffe and Mark Chilcott are back- and this time they’re delivering Damaged Goods.
